An associate's in paralegal studies will provide you with a solid foundation in law practice.

You will learn the basics of all the essentials, especially legal terminology, research for casework, drafting of legal documents, and procedural and substantive law practice. Specific areas of law that will be touched upon include criminal, business, real estate, and immigration law. Coursework will also cover the basics of conducting an investigation and civil litigation. Wills, trusts, and probate also receive attention. Strong interpersonal and communication skills will be developed., as will logic, reasoning, and attention to detail. Case studies with others studying in the field and/or opportunities to work alongside professionals may also be provided to allow you to garner experience in the real world setting.
Upon completion of the program you will have laid substantive groundwork for a career in law practice. You will have procured a foundational body of knowledge regarding the basics of legal and justice arenas, and will have acquired communication and research skills will allow you to successfully interact and work with others in the field of law.

You can also further your education at the bachelor's, master's, or even Ph.D. levels. After a bachelor's degree, law school also becomes an option. With a Ph.D., teaching and research positions become available.
