Your interpersonal skills will be developed, along with a working knowledge of how a business functions. This major focuses on employee issues such as recruiting, hiring, management of salaries and benefits, and ensuring that laws regarding the treatment of employees are followed. You will develop problem-solving skills to handle issues that may arise amongst employees or between employees and upper management. Your studies will also touch on the essentials of accounting and finance. The goal of this major is to set you up be the one in charge of all human resource issues for a business.
By completion of the coursework you will have a functional understanding of the role of the human resources department within a business. You will have a firm grasp of your role in this department in negotiating between the business and its employees to ensure that both parties are pleased with their experience at work.

This major enables you to step into the human resources department for almost any business. Specific areas of opportunity include: Human resources manager, Director of personnel, Training and development of employees, Recruiting and placement specialist, Mediation/arbitration, and Employee benefits management.
Also available is further education at the master's or Ph.D. level, where you can specialize in the areas of staffing and labor relations, arbitration, consultation, etc.
